How soon can you have sex after giving birth?

6 weeks minimum whether it is a vaginal or c-section. Ultimately it's when you feel your body is ready.

Often, your hormones are ready before your body is healed enough. I had a baby via c-section May 24, I was ready I thought, but my husband (who is a doctor) strongly advised against it and said "your hormones are ready, your body isnt'".

Your doctor/midwife would advise this. To allow your body to heal and to prevent infections that can be serious.

No sex, no tampons for first 6 weeks, to decrease risk of infection.

Your uterus needs to heal, it has a wound/hole where the egg implanted which became the placenta that can take 6 weeks to heal. Your uterus is shrinking also.

Even if you feel Ok, its best to wait. Your uterus is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria - warm, dark, moist. An infection would be well under way before being known about and can be very serious.

For the first 6 weeks, nothing should be inserted into the vagina.

When the doctor clears you, which is a minimum of six weeks for vaginal delivery and eight weeks for section.
