What's the difference between a beach and lake?
Hi, ik im dumb haha please don't judge. But you know how in Chicago it's Lake Michigan, but there are different beaches, like "Montrose beach" and "Fullerton beach" etc. Explain please? Serious answers only!

a beach is the stretch of land that directly borders a large body of water( lake or otherwise). MOST beaches will be sand or a composite of sand and will be devoid of permanent foliage. ( no grass or trees) sometimes these beaches will have access to the lake for boats, or just people wanting to go swimming.
an ocean is a large body of salt water deep enough to support very large vessels.
the BEACHES you are referring to are specific stretches of land along Lake Michigan. since said Lake is rather large, there could be an hours' travel time between the two beaches. or more. I only hung out on Erie as that was the Great lake closest to me growing up. some are public property or state parks, others are privately owned by the rich guy at the top of the dunes with his 6 bedroom house.

Beaches have sand and lead out to the ocean. Lakes are an enclosed body of water.
