Connecting my TV Panasonic TC-50PX24 with optical out to a Panasonic SA-HT690 using an audio converter.?
I have these units for many years. Old set up, all devices connects via RCA analog to an A/V switch box audio-IN with audio-OUT is split via Y-Cable to the TV and to the Home theater . All other devices with HDMI connects directly to TV via HDMI switch box. All is fine, but cant play regular TV audio to the Home theater.
New setup, using an Optical to RCA analog converter. The optical audio from TV to Home theater is OK when watching from all other inputs, such as Blu-ray, DVD, PS3 etc. but only hear static from the Home theater when watching TV. The TV speakers are OK. I tested the converter on other devices such as a CD player and it works fine.
What could be wrong?
I have contacted Panasonic Chat support but they are no help and tells me to take it to a service center.
Correct, I am not using cable, just OTA antenna reception and picking up local channels in HD.
I have read in many forums that this was a flaw of Panasonic TVs. It is unable to output over the air audio through the optical out which sucks. All other audio from other sources works, I guess Panasonic assumed nobody will use antenna anymore. Good thing I did not buy a newer receiver.

You do not state how the TV broadcast signal is getting to the TV (cable box, satellite receiver, etc.) so I am going to assume you are not using any HDMI input for the TV broadcast signal, you are just using reception over the cable or an air antenna. That being the case, go into your TV audio menu and try turning OFF the TV speakers and see if that enables the optical output for the TV broadcast.
