Lap top out of memory - do I need a new lap top?

To restore enough memory for programs to work correctly, save your file and then close or restart all open programs.

Do you mean memory as in RAM? Or memory as in storage? Either way. You do not need a new laptop.
-if your out of RAM, just stop the apps running in the background. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and is just temporary holding space until the saves are sent to the computer harddrive. It just speeds things up.
-if you are out of harddrive space, go into your files, and delete all the ones you don't need or use anymore. If you still want ALL of you stuff, buy an external harddrive on amazon, and put your stuff there.
-if the problem is BOTH, first free up harddrive space, then the RAM will calm down.
-if your not sure about the problem, just start cleaning out old files, youll solve the problem either way.

You could delete some unnecessary files or reboot your laptop. If you don't want to do this, you could buy an external hard drive or another hard disk.
