Has there ever been communism anywhere without single party rule?

In 1917, Russians demanded all power to the Soviets and the Tsar abdicated. Soviets were local committees democratically elected by workers, soldiers, sailors and others. They belonged to no particular party and consisted of members of many parties. But then Lenin decided that all the Soviets had to conform to the decisions of the Central Committee of the CPSU. The Kronstadt Sailors Soviet had decided to use naval stores to feed the local people who were starving, and Lenin said to stop it. The Kronstadt Soviet said no. And so Lenin sent an army led by Trotsky to arrest them and bring them into line.

The Paris Commune and Spanish Republic was similarly short lived. It seems that revolutions just do not lend themselves to multi-party democracies. Someone always consolidates the power. In the USA we have two parties, and that is little better than one.

There has never been any communism, period. Any government that has a party that runs things by itself is not communist. All the countries who have called themselves communist were nothing but dictatorships in which a small elite ran everything and took everything.
