religious folk, why are you offended by polygamy when your forefathers practiced it?

I am not offended by the proper practice of plural marriage. It must be ordered by God and entered into with proper attitudes of obedience and love. God directed His Prophets and Patriarchs to marry more than one wife. When they did so on their own volition, they were punished by God, such as happened with David and Solomon. In our own day, God ordered Joseph Smith to practice plural marriage. He did so reluctantly but obediently. Many of the Church leaders also obeyed. When the law of the land made it impossible to obey, the Lord excused us from further obedience. The Lord clarified this policy when he said that if He will raise up seed unto himself, He will command his people, otherwise they will obey the law of one man and one wife.

That is the summary of the matter.

Why are you offended by what offends me?

By the way, I am far from offended by polygamy. Yet I am highly offended when I'm falsely accused of taking offense.

So kindly revamp your offense.

Non-religious folk like you, what makes you think we tolerate anything that was practiced by forefathers?

Our forefathers also practiced idolatry, which God also condemned.

Because marriage used to constitute financial/economic investment

(i.e. to whom will I pass all my hard earned work?)

now marriage or relationships in general constitutes emotional investment

(i.e. love, trust, security, identity, etc)

BTW, monogamy is one partner for life, not one partner at a time.
