You play the ball from the point of the foul. You, as a player, cannot move the ball. THINK ABOUT IT.... A player cannot create an advantage THAT would be unfair!

When there is a free kick spot close to the 18 yard box the commentators usually say it is too close for the player to get the ball up and down over the defensive line because it is too close to the goal.
I realize that the player cannot move the ball closer to the goal or to the left or right in order to get a better angle for the kick but is there any rule that prohibits moving a free kick spot behind the spot of the foul to be able to curve the ball over the defensive line?
It seems that players like Ronaldo with powerful kicks would be better able to score a goal if the ball were further away from the goal to allow space to curve the ball over the defensive line.
In general there never seems to be a problem with moving a free kick spot further from the goal.
