What is your opinion on the creation of fanfiction?

What you're talking about isn't fan fiction. It's real person fiction. They're two different things. Seriously, calling RPF fan fiction is like saying that child porn and erotica are the same things. RPF is fairly sick and twisted, and some of it is breathtaking in how many lines the "writers" are willing to cross. It's one thing to fantasize about a celebrity, but the fact that these people can't see that posting it online is crossing a line that's simply wrong and should not be crossed is fairly mind-boggling.

I've always written original work but it was fanfic which gave me the confidence to post some of my original work online when fanfiction.net and fictionpress.org were combined. I think fanfic allows you to develop writing skills however I'm not a fan of the works which involve creepy scenarios or the ones where some layperson meets someone famous or a character in a book or movie and falls in love. I haven't written fanfic in many years now as I concentrate on my original work and am working on editing (though very slowly as I'd much rather write than edit!!) it to submit to publishers.

Fanfiction about fiction, like a book, movie or TV show is completely normal and I see nothing wrong with that. But fanfiction about real people, like celebrities or bands is disgusting and so so so wrong. If they need to write it, they should keep it to themselves because I know if someone was writing fanfictions about me id feel so weirded out and it's just frickin weird

This is why sites such as FanFiction dot Net specifically forbid the use of real persons. In fact, it is generally forbidden on most sites, because it leaves them and you open to legal action.

It is a copyright violation.
