WITH STATELY TREAD
Bugler, blow taps!
Night falls fast,
among the dead.
Close the park,
give the sleepers peace.
Some have lain long,
dreaming,
in their hallowed spot.
Others,
came here,
sooner than they thought.
Softly whisper names,
wars,
battles,
bravely fought.
With stately tread,
the Old Guard,
measures the most hallowed bowers.
Here heroes sleep,
names by man - lost.
God knows,
what man does not.
Father, son, lover, friend,
sleep.
Your battle done,
your place bravely won.
