Collections on Credit Report?

Question

I have several OPEN collections on my credit score, but say they have been paid off with $0 balance, that was last reported two years ago. Why wouldn't these be closed if it was two years ago with no balance? And is there a way to fix this?

A credit report has no value if you can edit the information.   Your report shows that you paid but late.  That is true information.  All you can do is wait for it to drop off the report in 7+ years.  As long as you keep a history of on time payments,  you need not worry about all that.  Only worry if you have a pattern of missed payments and late payments.  That shows you have money problems.

Apparently collections stay on your credit report for 7 years, with perhaps only the reported balance changing when you pay them off.
