HP laptop gets stuck on sleep mode? Please help!?

Hi, so I have a HP 2000 Notebook Windows 8 PC laptop. It's a 64-bit operating system, if that helps. I've had it for maybe under two years now. So here's my problem, which I am hoping someone can at least tell me why it is happening if not a solution:

I've noticed this just today. I'll leave my laptop up and running and leave the room. During that time, it will go into sleep mode, which is normal, I suppose. I come back maybe fifteen minutes later--depending on how long I am out--and click around to get it up and running again and out of sleep mode. Today, I've noticed that it just remains frozen in sleep mode. The power light is on, the network light is on, and after spending maybe ten minutes pressing the space bar a zillion times, the caps light will turn on, too, if I press it. Before today, the laptop sometimes takes a couple of minutes to jump out of sleep mode, but it always does. And now...well, now it just remains stuck until I have to restart it. After I restart it, everything is cool. Until I leave the room again and it goes into sleep mode. I have tried closing down the laptop--not turning it off, just closing it--and waiting five-ten minutes and trying to open it back up, but alas, nothing. I have not done a hard shut down of my computer yet--I am kind of avoiding having to do that. So I am hoping someone can tell me how I can fix this problem or at least a reason for why this is happening.

All answers appreciated!

Thanks!

Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC

Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment

Disconnect any external devices or peripherals connected to the notebook. Press and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.

If this doesn't work please reply

There is a way to disable sleep mode so you don't have to keep restarting it. There's also a way to disable sleep mode when you close your laptop lid.

Go to your Task bar and find the battery source, click on it, then click "More Power Options" Once in there, click "Choose when to turn off the display" Inside that, change the "Put the computer to sleep" option on both battery and plugged in to "Never" then click "Save Changes" Now click "Choose what closing the lid does" Inside that, change the "When I close the lid" to "Do Nothing" click "Save Changes" and you're good.
