what if I refused to sit for jury duty?

When I show up for service, what if I told them I do not want to/will not serve on a jury... what's the worst they can do? I mean, I just don't care about serving... what's the worst? I mean, they can't force me to sit there and be fair & impartial if I don't want too!

I'll show up, but what if I refuse, pure & simple!?

If you do not want to serve do not respond when you get the summons unless you got it by certified mail and they can prove you received it. Court do not let people openly defy them, they put them in jail, but usually do not track down people who do not respond.

Almost no one wants to serve on a jury, but do it because they know that our legal system will not work without juries.

You can't refuse to serve. However, if you say that you can't be fair to one side or the other for some realistic reason you'll be let go.

amazingly you can be jailed indefinitely for contempt , which is obviously ridiculous given real criminals get derisory sentences , defy the state in this country and you are in real trouble , bank robbing , assault, robbery, fraud - that's not so bad
