Pros and Cons of Dual Citizenship? U.S. and Venezuela?
Hello, I have a few questions as to whether I should get dual citizenship or not. I live in the U.S. and was born and raised here so I am an American citizen already. My mother however was born in Venezuela and because of that I have the opportunity to get Venezuelan citizenship before I turn 18, Im 16 almost 17 so time is running out. I was wondering what are the pros and cons of dual citizenship in the U.S.
Another major question I have is that is it a good idea to get Venezuelan citizenship with the current conditions the country is in?
I also heard that the country you are a citizen of can call you in for military service. However I was born in the U.S. and oblige myself to the U.S. if anything. I don't want any problems with this.
Should I get Venezuelan citizenship I will use it for the benefit of me traveling down there so when I am there I am protected under their law as well and traveling through the airports would be easier. Also this is an opportunity I can only get before I turn 18 so I need to decide soon.
Keep in mind I'm 16 so please don't scorn me if I said anything that doesn't make sense :-)
Thank you!

I think you should get Venezuelan citizenship. It won't help you out with anything (a US Passport is many time more useful than a Venezuelan Passport) but you've got nothing to lose. It could prove useful some day.
A Venezuelan Passport might be useful for countries where Americans aren't received warmly (Cuba, Iran) but I'm not sure it would play out for you because your Venezuelan passport would say you were born in the US. Besides I don't know whether you even want to go to these countries.
So, go ahead and get Venezuelan citizenship. You've got nothing to lose.

I am sorry but you don't have the appropriate information. Venezuela is one of those countries which does not permit dual citizenship. Given the political situation between US and Venezuela It is not a good idea to have a Venezuelan passport or to visit the country. It is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Do yourself a favor and don't expose yourself to danger.
