I'd advise you to have a look at the Nikon D5100...it's available for a decent price and is a great camera for newcomers.

How good the photos your camera delivers is really down to you...most cameras from the big brands are pretty capable these days.

Yes, the Nikon D3100 is capable of taking pictures of fast moving objects with no blurry pix. It has a shutter speed of up to 1/4000 second. That should stop most things. Now, the next problem is aperture, ISO, and photographer.

All dSLR's can be made to capture fast action. So yes, the D3100 can do that. Along with all other dSLR's, what is really important and necessary is the correct amount of skill on the part of the photographer to set up the camera correctly to freeze action accordingly.

Yes of course it can provided that there is sufficient light to keep a fast enough shutter speed and provided that you keep camera shake under control.

The pros and cons between the 2 cameras are listed quite well here

    this question is often asked

    the best answer is

you only get a fast shutter speed if the light is GOOD.

to get extra light into the lens, buy a BETTER lens.

eg a zoom lens with f4..f5.6 will NOT be FAST enough(low enough Fno.) to allow highest shutter speeds.

a lens with F3 or less will do much better.

so a low F no. is what you need.

sometimes looking at other lens makers allows you to buy a better spec lens instead of the standard 18-55mm..
