what camera should I get for skateboarding?

Mainly for photography, should I get the nikon d3200 with the kit lens, or get the nikon d3100 and then I would be able to afford a 50mm 1.8g lens for the camera as well?

    They have a point . If you're shooting from the sidelines, just about any DSLR will do - although you might need something longer than the 18-55mm, and the 50mm will be of limited use.

    If you're actually skateboarding, the first spill will leave you with an expensive piece of scrap - DSLRs CANNOT take that kind of punishment.

    The GoPro is an absolutely terrible camera, but it'll survive anything - short of a direct meteor strike - exactly what you need when you and your skateboard part company at 50mph.

    Nikon D5100/Sony A58/ Canon 650D. The moveable LCD will let you take photos from interesting angles.

    For extreme skateboarding get a Gopro.

    Will you be boarding yourself or shooting as a spectator?

    If you are spectating then the D3200 will be fine

    If you are boarding then something like a GoPro would be better
