Can anybody recommend an interesting guide book to London (England)?
curiosities, little-known facts, how to get around, etc. It's for a newly-arrived resident from Canada.
Must be readily available.

Lonely Planet Guides are very good. People who answer questions here will give you a lot of info if you outline your interests a little more. Time Out is excellent too

The best way to get around London effectively is to learn its geography and obtain an A to Z street map. You will be surprised how many trips are simple to walk. Most visitors make the mistake of over reliance on the Underground system. It does not serve all areas and can be cumbersome for short journeys. Use the Underground in conjunction with the bus system (470 routes), suburban trains, London Overground and the Docklands Light Railway and Thames Clipper boats. If you have not already got one, get an Oyster Card. Don't pay cash fares

I can recommend a couple of websites. For getting around, the Transport for London website.
For weird information, the Shady Old Lady website.
One place to visit for guide books is Stanfords on Long Acre (nearest tubes Covent Garden or Leicester Square). You will be able to browse their London section to find the sort of book which interests you.
If you don't have a smart phone, the A - Z London map book is useful. Sold in newsagents all over London.
