Would your parents tell you something like this?

This memory just randomly popped into my head. I was about 9 or 10 and I was in the backseat of the car and just had my hand out the window moving it along with the music in the car and my parents said if I kept moving my hand outside the window like that someone was going to shoot my hand off. And they were being completely serious they weren't talking about "oh the boogie man is gonna get you" they were dead serious. Would your parents ever say something like this to you?

Update:

@Kimmy Wow.

    Maybe you lived in a rough neighborhood?

    I remember when I was a kid, going down the highway with my hand out the window, a bee flew in and stung my chest. It was horrible.

    Hmm, probably not. My parents wouldn't have told me that I was going to get my hand shot off.... maybe you were in a bad area? In that case they should've locked the windows and the doors. Other then that, I feel like my parents at least tried to keep my innocence as long as possible so they didn't talk about shootings or guns or anything like that...

    They would if I lived in a bad area but when we drove through the bad areas when we were kids, we weren't allowed to have our windows down...our parents didn't like us having our hands out the window anyway, we were always told it it could snag on something and cut our arm off...

    My mom used to tell me that a sign or something could cut my hand off if I stuck it out the window. I am sure they were repeating whatever they were told as a child. Sounds to me like it is the same theory as my mom, just worded differently.

    NO.

    That just seems a bit harsh and cruel especially being said to a young child. I don't understand why your parents would say something like that. Not good parenting, I mean they could've just simply told you to get your hands back in the car. That's pathetic and immature in opinion. I'm sorry that your parents thought it was okay to talk to you in that manner. Shame on them!!!

    I remember my /sisters/ telling me something would drive by and hit my hand off but my parents always just told me the truth that my hand was in the way of their sideview mirror and they couldn't see back..

    Uhhh, not really. Especially when I was ten years old.

    I mean, maybe they would now, but they'd be serious for five seconds and then start laughing, saying they're joking so yeah, I don't think that's normal...
