Notice of distress fine help!?

Ok so I had a period where I was untaxed on my car then I taxed it and sold it. Stupid I know but it slipped my mind

Anyway I have since moved and now recieved a letter saying I owe 700 to collectica within 14 days as I didn't pay the fine and the courts have classed me as guilty

I never recieved correspondence before one collectica don't care and are sending bailiffs the dvla said I can appeal but that probably won't help is there anything else I can do as I'm guessing it went to court in my absence and this is the first letter I got I'm not saying I didn't not tax my car but apparently the fine was 80 quid and I never got a letter and now collectica want 700 quid by next week there must be some way I can get this sorted quicker

Pay the original fine of £80 to the court asap, then show the reciept to collectica. That's if they let you do it, the court might not accept payment, in which case avoid the baliff, and make an offer of settlement to the collection company, say £200, for immediate settlement, get it in writing.
Only other option is to protest the excessive charges in court.
