What is the definition of a "real Hindu"?
In my opinion, there are three types of Hindus in India:
1- BJP Hindus, 2- Sensible Hindus, 3. Ignorant and naive Hindus.
We are fortunate that most of us are Sensible Hindus. India is safe.
You are free to differ and I solicit your views on this. Cynics- please keep away.
@ Anand
I agree with you Anand. Never talked about myself. Thanks.
@ ironman
There are Hindus across the spectrum and I agree with you in that. Yet allow me to say at least, that the BJP Hindus are the 'proud Hindus' among all the Hindus.
Other Hindus, I being one of those, seem to be 'timid and naive'.
@ Kevin
Thanks Kevin for allowing me also in. I am comfortable with you.
@ Pancho:
I was looking for a real Hindu and you are the real Hindu- Pancho

Of course there are people living at different levels of perception so you're going to see many who were born and brought up Hindu but who have no understanding of it - and some have no interest in it, either. I know. I've met them. But there ARE some who know the ancient ways, the ancient traditions, and they follow them all of their lives. A real Hindu seeks the Guru, lives according to the scriptural injunctions, and lives his or her life only to seek God. That is not to say that they don't do anything else of course - they go to work, they raise families, and they know of the ashramas of life and what they should be doing during each one of them. They know the real caste system (as opposed to the modern degenerated version of it) and know their own caste and know that one's caste can change for good or for bad depending on behaviour. The real Hindu will do his/her meditations, pooja, there is an altar in the home, and they know that they need to avoid intoxicants. A Hindu reads the Vedic texts and knows that he/she has to learn renunciation and detachment from worldly excitements. If one's karma is good, they will attract to them one who will instruct them in the ancient meditational techniques, such as Kriya Yoga which can take them to God much more quickly than other methods. I can speak of this because I myself am an ex-Christian (Catholic) who gravitated very strongly all of his life toward Sanatana Dharma and one day I found my Guru (in 1982). After that i saw myself as "Hindu" and have lived as one. I've seen certain people who've come from India who had no understanding of the very tradition they were born into. Others, however, embodied the very essence of pure Sanatana Dharma. And it's always good to see that ...

Hindu- is the major community in India. Every one born in this community is 'real Hindu' whatever be his views. I am 'real Hindu' though I am an atheist and do not believe in any religion, God or religious books.
BJP is a political party based on so called Hindutva. But this party has also a minority cell and some Non Hindu leaders and members. There is no such as BJP Hindus. Then we shall also have Congress Hindus, Janata Dal Hindus, Samajvadi Hindus and so on. Sensibility has nothing to do with religion and thus 'sensible Hindu' means nothing. similarly, any one may be ignorant or naive and this has nothing to do with any religion.
We are fortunate that most of us are 'sensible'. There is no such thing as 'sensible Hindus', 'sensible Muslims' and so on. 'sensible' is just sensible.
The request to so called cynics to keep away is not understandable. I hope every one- cynic or sensible- may answer. Nobody can judge as to who is cynic.

A real Hindu is the one who follows the Teachings of "Bhagavad Gita".
Actually "Hindu" was a term coined by the Indologists for the people staying on the other side of the "Sindhu" river, they could not pronounce "Sindhu", so they termed "Hindu".
The actual relegion followed throughout the previous ages in India was the "Sanatana Dharma". Which is the "Real Hinduism"

Hindus are Indian nationals. They may belong to any religion. The word denotes Nationality. But during muslim rule Sultaans coined the word to distinguish themselves frm original people living in India which was followed by British rulers. BJP etc. are political parties nd don't hav anything to do with ur thought.

Subha Dipavali to everyone....
Sorry to say but i dont belive that we are Hindus. In our Vedic Scriptures there is no such word as Hindu. Hindu is not a cast if we refer Hindu to Vedic Culture it is a way of life. So all of us how say i am Hindu should not believe in cast its a way of life which is define by our Novel Rishi Munis. If any one over here is from BJP party , I like to ask him do they know , from where this Hindu word came from. Arab or Mughal they cant pronounce Sindhu, as they used to call the peoples from other part of Sindu River as Hindu ( Sindhu, in arab S is pronouse as H).
I have much more to write but will end over here.

as i know, there is no specification, -which a person
has to conform to ,- to be a hindu.so there can't be a real hindu.
some/those who call/consider/identify themselves as jews,
christians, muslims, zorastrians and etc, call others as hindus.
a hindu is an individual who is neither led nor leads,a free soul
free to think, and live as it pleases.
that is the strength and that is the weakness.
thus any one who tries classify and codify, control a hindu is the one
who is not a hindu (even though claims to be a hindu).
i & you are we,but he is the other(hindu).

Opinions will vary.
My opinion:
If someone tells me he or she is a Hindu I generally look no further.
