Are you allowed to fire on somebody stealing your vehicle in public?
Let's say you have a weapon on you, that you are carrying legally. If you were at a cafe or something and you saw somebody break into your vehicle and start it up, or begin taking it away, are you allowed to fire on them?
It would be in a public location, and not on your property.
I don't think you can, but does anybody know?

In a situation like that, it's best to call the police and allow them to handle it. If you fire your gun, you can be charged with disturbing the public, firing a gun in city ordinance, attempted murder, etc.

You can only fire at someone if your life is in danger and you feel the person
is going to do great bodily harm or kill you. Note that some states do not even
allow that or have a stand your ground law. Some states say you have to retreat
and still can not fire your weapon. You have to be very clear of the laws of your
state.
So the answer is no never.

There is no immediate threat of harm or death to you or your family, so use of deadly force is not necessary, and is excessive in this scenario.
So no, you cannot shoot at someone in public, or even in your driveway, if they are stealing your car and driving down the road.

You could but every other American within the sound of the gunshot will draw their guns and a huge gun battle will start during which you will be shot and die.
No you can't you'd be done for attempted Murder Minimum.

No, not unless the criminal has threatened your life with a deadly weapon and he still has that weapon in his dead hand when the police show up. Hint, hint.

Nope, you aren't. You will be violating city ordinances for discharging a firearm. You will also be placing others in danger of grievous bodily harm. You can ONLY defend yourself and your property while you are in or on your property.
