What console should I get?
So I have never owned and Xbox 360 or a PS3. All I have had previously are a Wii and years ago, a PS2. This is because A) Money and B) There wasn't any point as my parents wouldn't let me get any of the good *cough* violent *cough* games for those consoles.
Now I am a few years older I can buy my own games and stuff.
I would love a gaming PC but no way I can get one :P
I think I would prefer a play station, so should I try and get a PS3 soon, or a PS4 at near the end of next year, because realistically that's when I will be able to. I also assume you can play PS3 game on PS4, I see all these awesome games coming out and feel like i'm missing out!
So basically is it worth me trying to get a PS3 now? Or should I just wait till I can get a PS4?
You can try and convince me why Xbox is better, but i'm pretty sure i'll want a play station.

First things first, you CANNOT play PS3 games on a PS4; none of the next-gen consoles are backwards compatible.
So if you wanted to play a game like the Last of Us you're going to have to get a PS3. You could wait like 5 years to see if they release it for digital download on the PS4 but I would't get your hopes up.
You're probably better off getting next gen. They'll make games available for both current and next gen for about a year after release before they stop completely.
Only real problem with that is a couple of games out now, by which I mean GTA V, is only available on current gen- you won't get it on the PS4 and XboxOne.

Now for the PS4 vs XboxOne thing.
I don't know what you're heard about the XB1 but here's a few common misconceptions that need correcting just in case
1- The XB1 is NOT always online and does NOT require a 24 hour check in.
2- The Kinect is not mandatory, you can turn it off whenever you like.
3- You can share games with your friends, just give them the disc and they can enjoy it. The same with used games.
4- It is NOT region locked.
If you already knew these then sorry, but it's a amazing how many people still think this.
Now, I know you want the PS4 for the better exclusives, but have you seen some of the XboxOne's exclusives? They've really brought in the big guns with some amazing titles that everyone agrees are amazing.
XboxOne: "Titanfall", "Sunset Overdrive" and "Killer Instinct", the last of which being free with the purchase of the console.
The Playstation4 in repost has such titles as "Infamous: second son", "Blacklight: Retribution" and "Knack", the last being the feature of their announcement.
Here's all their trailers:

Multi-platform games will be exactly the same on both consoles; by this I mean games like Assassins Creed, CoD, Battlefield and the rising emperor of the gaming world Destiny.
Developers would have to re-make all their character and map models to optimise it's look on the PS4 otherwise, and that would take more time and money than it's worth, so they are literally designed to be the same.
~~~~~~
The only other real factor is the power, in stats alone the PS4 dominates, though both systems have 8gb of Ram and 500gb hard-drives.
HOWEVER one system uses GDDR5 and the otehr uses DDR3 ram, GDDR5 is built off of DDR3, except it's built for graphics cards (hence the G in GDDR5). GDDR5 is more optimized for graphics, but it honestly won't make that big of a difference between the consoles.
On both systems you are now able to take it apart and switch out components, much like you would with a gaming PC.
The XboxOne has 32mb of eSRAM for developers to use as a cashe to run more smoothly with updates, though this will make next to no noticeable difference.
~~~~~~
The last thing would be how smoothly both systems preform, the PS4 has an extra 50% shader output than the XboxOne when pushed to it's limits, although developers have expressed concerns that things like this could set the PS4 to overheat, much like the PS3 was prone to, as everything is inside the console.

he XboxOne keeps a couple of things outside to prevent overheat which while this means it's a bit bulky and annoying to set up it keeps functioning.
I'm getting the PS4 to play Destiny with my friends who've always been PS3 fanboys/girls. Especially after Microsoft's disastrous E3 conference.
^-^ Hope this helps! ^-^
