Is is okay to go wedding dress shopping months in advance to find out what suits you?

Let me explain. I have no idea what looks good on me and I have no real preference like how I see all these brides who wanted this style or that style. The only thing I know is that I need something that allows me to move freely. I am going overseas to visit relatives. I would love to try on wedding dresses there so I get an idea about what style suits me and what styles do not suit me. But I recognize that it seems from tv that many consultants in these stores get paid commission on the sales. I don't want to cause whoever it is to lose out on a sale. I would definitely go back to that particular store to buy the actual dress(I have made up my mind that is what I would do).

I had asked this question a little while ago and someone told me just print off styles from online. But I can't figure out how looking at styles online will tell me if it will suit my personal shape. Please help me to find out what is the best thing to do. I'm so frustrated.

You really do need to try on all different styles. What you like in a photo may not look good on you.

Bridal salons do realize you are going to different stores. they do realize brides usually do not buy their first time out.

You may find a a dress you like better at a different salon. Not all salons are going to carry every desinger, and every dress.

We went to five different stores. Went back to 3 of them twice- and bought the gown at one of those 3. We just ordered it. It will not be in until mid February 2014. You need to look and order early.

Just a warning. Don't try on a dress you can not buy where you live. You do not want to fall in love with a dress overseas and not be able to get it where you live.

    Sure it is fine.

In fact most of us stupidly rush right out and buy the first great dress we see.

Yet we shop and look for all our other purchases.

You have the right to shop around for the best deal here or overseas. Just like with anything you buy. A wedding dress is not sacred.

Just realize that you may change shape a bit before the wedding. It happens all the time. So buy it a bit big and have it altered just before the ceremony.

If you are absolutely sure that you two will definitely wed and nothing will come between, then yes! By all means, go ahead and check gowns out already! I mean, everyone normal wants their wedding perfect ^___^ so it's not weird if you do it really early. And if you still feel weird about it, you don't need to purchase it now, you can kind of window shop lol. But, I try some on so you get the feel of a little of how it SHOULD be like and a little of how you WANT it to be like. (= Whatever makes you comfortable. I hope this answered your question though, I was a little confused! ;p OH! And congradulations! And best wishes to the two of you! (:

Well of course it's okay to go find what suits you, how else are you going to know?

And not every woman finds the right dress at the first store she goes to so saying you don't want the consultant to loose a sale is a bit silly, because it implies that every consultant sells a dress to every person they help.

Make an appointment, go try things on. If you buy something, you buy something, if you don't you don't.

lots of professionals make a commission off their sales: car salesmen, jewelry stores, retail stores etc. does that stop people from "just looking"? No! Of course not. Never feel pressured to purchase anything, no matter where you are shopping or what you are shopping for. You are not wasting anyone's time by "just looking", it's part of the process and everybody understands that, especially the people at bridal boutiques.

It is totally ok. Other people do that too. It's what I will do when I get married. I mean there are sooooo many styles and you want to look good.
