What do you think is the greatest social problem in our country/society right now?

Moral relativism, a lack of understanding of what is right and wrong. A sense of entitlement. A lack of understanding of the relationship between ethics, morality, and democracy(Democracy will not work without moral and ethical people to run for office.) It isn't so much a specific problem or course of action as a shift in attitude that is the problem.

A return to basic morality and a teaching of the virtues of work and self control would solve a lot of our problems. I mean think about it it, if we ACTUALLY became more moral and acted more ethically, we wouldn't have many of the social problems, like corporate theft on a large scale(Enron, TYCO, etc). If we controlled ourselves, contentious issues like abortion or STDs would be far decreased and we would be more financially secure due to having less debt. Showing the value of hard work is a good example for the next generation.

The breakdown of the family unit. The out of control birthrates among the low income non-tax payers and the shrinking birthrate of the tax base.

Solution. People start using self control and bear the responsibility of their choices. Minorities with power and influence should spend as much time speaking out to the minority poor to change the self destructive mindsets that make single mothers with multiple children from multiple fathers acceptable, as they do. Give minority poor women more incentive to get an education than to have many children and go on welfare. Teach them that they deserve more. If mothers have self respect then they will teach it to their girls and just as importantly to their boys and their boys won't grow up indolent and destructive. The key is with the mothers.

Greatest social problem, is the declining education system, currently afflicting

the nation. The country is strong and resilient enough to make it through most

upheavals. Ignorance and lack of education, is a a spreading cancer.

Return to the days of basic educational values and expand the school year to

11 months.

I'm told at the end of Generation X but also the beginning of Generation Y.

Poorly educated masses

Home schooling children, public school is indoctrination and turn off the TV. Even the history channel has been dumbed down to reality television.

Older American

Crime and the violence in low income areas with law abiding people held hostage by their own environment.

Politicians should Stop making excuses, advocate for increased law enforcement and putting satellite cop shops in high crime areas to act to prevent crimes, not investigate the tragedies of them afterwards and, which would allow cops stationed there to get to know the good guys and identify the bad.

Ignorance.

Racial inequality because unemployment for blacks has been about double that for whites since the 1940s. Minorities are finding themselves in a circle of poverty. Subconscious racism affects what kinds of jobs people get, how much money they get for that job, where they live, what kind of education they have, and whether they can afford health care.

Affirmative action by private businesses and more education about racial inequality are just two solutions

HATRED AND BIGOTRY...Hate will be mankind's downfall. There is so much religious hate, bigotry, homophobia, violence against women, and racism in this world.

Until us humans accept one another has beautiful loving humans and spread more love....mankind will (or may never) learn to move forward towards enlightenment.
