Visiting Japan,Tokyo during New Year (2014) ?

Hello!

I was planning a trip to Tokyo during New Year (around the time from 28.12 until 04.12).

Since it's New Year I believe there are many shops and restaurant which are closed.

I wanted to ask any places I could go during this time,where I could do some shopping ?

I would be very pleased about some good and affordable restaurants.

PS. Please don't suggest any temples,I am not that interest in those.

    Most of the shops had been closed during New Years 30 years before.

    However nowadays, most of the shops and restaurants open from 1st Jan except traditional one. You will not be in trouble.

    Zojoji is the one of the famous temple in Tokyo.

    All of temples and shrines are opening from 31st Dec. to 1st Jan overnight for the visitors.

    Since many Japanese go to temple or shrine in NY, you may be surprise about the jam.
