Do I need to get an itunes account?

Hi i'm getting an Ipod soon and I have a few question about itunes. I have had an Ipod before, with my itunes on an old computer with an account made by Dad linked to his card which is annoying if I wan't to buy music from the itunes store. So now I have my own laptop, so i'm starting fresh, new ipod, new library, new account. I have downloaded itunes. I can't seem to access any kind of library without logging in? This seems really stupid to me, but maybe i'm missing something?

So I created an apple account, (Just Name, Email, password etc) Then before using iTunes it wanted me to put in payment details, I haven't yet done this yet, as I said I haven't even got my iPod yet :P

Yeah so i'm kind of confused?

I'm not bothered about my old music. As I said, fresh start.

Ugh thats so irritating that I have to do that just to use the software as a storage system and for putting music onto an iPod.

    Your other music was acquired by another apple ID. You cannot freely share it to another account.

    If you have your old ipod still you can use third party software to recover that music from it in mp3 format. These files can then be imported into your itunes library.

    You don't need iTunes to manage your music on an iPod, although you would need it for firmware updates, and for installing apps. If you want to just manage music, and nothing else, I would suggest you try copytrans, from the link below. Download it, and follow the instructions to sync your music.

    If you want to sign into iTunes, without adding a payment method, follow the instructions below to do so. Please note that if you set up this way, you can only download free apps, and you will not be able to make any in-app purchases, such as game coins, gems, etc. You can add a payment method later, if you wish, of course.

    You need an ITunes account no matter what if you want to put music, tv shows, or movies on your ipod.
