Teaching, even though I have no experience. Is it possible?

Hi! My degree day at the University is getting closer and closer, and my dream job would be teaching (English Literature if possible). But the fact is that, of course, I'll have no job experience. So, from where do I start to make this dream come true? Any suggestions? I really have no idea. Thanks for all the satisfying answers :)

In the UK there are a number of ways into teaching.

For someone with a first degree, a common route is by doing a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

Go to this link and you will find a check list you can follow: http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/teac...

For the home page of the Department for Education website go here: http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching

This is where you can start to find out just about anything you need to know about entering teaching.

For years every English job posted in this state has had over 200 fully qualified applicants within 24 hours of the posting. There are two subject areas with few than a hundred applicants for each posting--they are in Special Education (behavioral) and advanced math.

Start as a sub and hope (as happened for me) that someone drops dead in the middle of Great Expectations.

I believe that to teach in the U.K. you have to complete something called a PGCE. In the U.S., pre-service programs for teachers include student teaching, where you get experience under a mentor. It's hard to believe that teachers in the U.K. would be hired and plopped in the classroom without something similar. But maybe someone on here with more experience in the U.K. can give you a better answer.

I think they have internships in most schools, you can start off with that.
