Can I use the tires on my old car as a spare for my new car?
I have a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis that broke down on me (ran on no oil) but I bought a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. The tire sizes are different but can I use it as a spare? The size on the 2000 is 225/60/16 and the 1993 is 215/70/15. The new one does have a dough nut spare but I would feel more comfortable having one I can drive on longer until I can fix the other tire. Also are there any other parts you would suggest keeping before I junk the 1993?

Well,
The newer tires are a lower profile and on larger rims.
Overall the difference in outside diameter is not going to be that much of an issue but it may affect your handling.
As long as the wheels fit properly on the hubs I think it would work at least as well as the dough nut spare.
you would have to try the old wheel and see how it drives.
There may be mroe issues if you have the spare on the front...
It would still be best to have the same tires all round as soon as practical .
Good luck !

The size of the rim is what makes the difference, meaning the 93 tire is slightly smaller. But a donut tire is much smaller so it doesn't matter, so as long as the rim fits the lug nut posts of the wheel. Just remember to use it only for a spare. As for other parts, if you can't determine what is reusable between the seven years of the vehicles, why bother with potential problems of used parts in the future?

You would need to replace both the wheels and tires. If the bolt pattern on the wheels is the same size you could use them
