Help!, I'm not even sure I can return for the answer(?)?

Computer is totally bananas doing all kinds of crazy things on its own.

one example, when I click on a desk top icon to travel to a favorite website

a box starts to unroll from the bottom of the icon(like a drop down menu)

and it fills with "M"s....like this MMMMM

MMMMM

MMMMM

and that continues for about 20/30 rows downward.

End result I can't open the website from my desk top and must find other ways to do so.

Another super annoying trait presently invading my desk top is

a "magnification window" at the very top of the monitor screen.

It like having two screens open at once with the top screen magnifying

everything I do underneath in the "bottom" window.

So far I have reset computer to an earlier date but that has not helped.

I ran a full scan on my anti-virus (Avast!) and no virus came up.

What could possible be wrong?

An undetected virus or some type of malware bug?

Update:

Hey guys, thanks one and all.

Something I did yesterday seems to have worked,

at least temporarily. I can now operate computer although

it takes what seems like hours to first open!

But once the computer is operational and once I've entered the Internet

(although this too is very slow)

all is well. I'm scared to follow much of the advice you guys have given me

since "repairing" software is confusing for me, to say the least!

But thanks again.

I'll keep all the information in case I need it in the future,

and I probably will..;-)

    Reinstall Windows, it's much easier than trying to track down all the problems your system obviously has!☺

    Did you try to go into windows safe mode with networking. See if the same errors come up? If they don't could be malware, since you allready did a system restore. Goto malwarebytes and download and run this, if there is malware 'should' get ride of it. If there is a physically issue with your keyboard, could be sticking key. Then while computer is off, unplug and replug in the keyboard. Or try a friends keyboard to see if the same 1st error occurs.

    2nd: the magnification thing, if i remember can be disabled in your control panel, i think it's call 'accessability' make sure there is nothing checked 'on' in there.

    Try this:

    Firstly, boot your computer to the Safe Mode menu screen.

    To do this with Windows 8, this link should prove useful. Once there, enable Safe Mode with Networking. If you run another version of Windows, ignore the link and keep reading:

    You do this by repeatedly pressing F8 as soon as you boot up. Once there, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Continue to boot from there, by pressing Enter. You will now see some drivers being loaded. There will be a pause at some point. This usually lasts for no more than 30 seconds.

    If that’s successful, open your browser, copy and paste this link into the address bar and press Enter. It's a direct download for RKill. Save it to your desktop, then run it. It takes just a minute to run. As it's running, any remaining desktop icons will vanish for a few seconds. When the notepad report is displayed, just close it.

    RKill SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THE INFECTION(S) FROM RUNNING, BUT IT WON'T HAVE REMOVED IT / THEM.

    Now open your browser and copy and paste this link into the address bar, and press Enter. It's a direct download for the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM). Install it, get updates and run a full scan (still in Safe Mode):

    You should now delete RKill, as updated versions are often made available. Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware is easy to uninstall, but it may prove to be beneficial in the future.

    After this, try rebooting normally. If that's successful, I recommend you run another full scan with MBAM. It will detect malware that wasn't running in Safe Mode.
