I have some sunflowers?
And they are covered with sugar ants. However, I don't think the sugar ants are eating the sunflowers, but something is. The sugar ants are eating some of the aphids that are on the sunflowers. Should I dust the sunflowers anyway to keep the sugar ants off of them ?

Aphids produce "honeydew" and the ants are literally milking the aphids for the honeydew, they're sort of like ranchers. I would say if you get rid of the ants, the aphid problem will only get worse. Blast the sunflowers with the garden sprayer once in a while to knock the aphids (and the ants) off of them. The best way to control aphids is not with poison but with ladybugs, you can actually buy them online!

What about a hard spray of water with your hose? I think your plants would bless you for it. You really need to find the ants' colony, place the whole thing, dirt and all, in plastic bags and discard it.
