There isn't a whole lot you can do other than keep up your house. If the bank lets the property go to pot, you can call the city to force the bank to mow it and do basic maintenance.

Sure, its an opportunity for a good deal, but its not going to be a pennies on the dollar type thing. People think that foreclosed properties are going to be like free money. They can be good deals, especially if you can add value through improvements, but the banks aren't giving them away. Generally, you also need to be a well qualified buyer.
