How do students in the UK finance their studies?
I am from Germany and we basically have no tution fees. I don't understand how students in the UK manage to pay 10000 pounds a year.

When students in the UK attend university they are charged tuition fees, and are also paid grants, loans and bursaries. Students do not have to start repaying their loans and fees until they have left university, are employed, and earning £21,000 per annum.
For example, if Student A is studying a 3-year course, has tuition fees of £9,000 a year and receives £3,000 a year in loans/grants etc, then each year would cost £12,000.
When they graduate, they would owe £36,000.
This does NOT include any interest accumulated over those 3 years.
Once employed and earning £21,000 a year or more, then the total debt is gradually repayed at a small percentage of the monthly income.

There is such thing as a 'student loan'. As we pay tax, students have the option to take out a loan to fund one or even 3 years education. They then gradually pay this back. Hope this helped!

Smart parents save up for their children's education! Student loans are a heavy burden to start out in life. And if the economy is bad, jobs are scarce. Taxes (Germany's method) create another heavy burden.

In the Uk we don't have to pay right away. We only have to start paying it back once we earn over £20.000 a year and even then its small amounts each week.
