Jamra - these are three land marks (mounds) in Mina a few miles from Mecca called Jamra Ist, IInd and IIIrd.

During Haq - pilgrimage one proceeds to Mina, but before proceeding one should collect 49 or 56 pebbles to strike at the mounds of Jamras.

Here one strikes the backside Jamra with seven pebbles using your fingers only, with every throw saying Takbir (Allah-O-Akbar).

It relates to the events of the Prophet Abraham (as) when he was ordered to sacrifice his son Ismael as a token of submission.

The Satan came to him thrice and tried to turn him away from the intended sacrifice.

Prophet Abraham (as) paid no heed to the Satan and as an act of displeasure threw pebbles at him.

It happened at three places and at each place small land-marks were raised.

Thus it is here that Hajees - pilgrims, throw pebbles at them.

This is a reminder of the necessity to develop resistance to the Satan.

Aswad - the black stone is placed in the eastern corner of the Ka'ba and is enclosed in silver and glass case.

Due to overcrowding most just touch it by hand and kiss the hand.

The black stone is said to have marked the Ka'aba as a place of worship long age.

It has been described as a meteorite and tradition holds that it fell from heaven to show Adam and Eve where to build an altar.

Said originally to be pure white in colour but turned black because of sins absorbed over the years.

First..Pilgrims throw pebbles over the pillars of stone,3 of them if I'm not mistaken. They do this because it was to remember the time where Prophet Abraham was stopped by the Devil on his way to slaughter his son by the command of God. The Devil was in his way 3 times and each time he will gather some pebbles and throw these pebbles on the Devil. This was also means for Muslims to "throw away" their wickedness deep within their heart. As for the second one..the stone(s) you've mentioned is called the Black Stone. It was placed over the one points of Kaabah and Muslims are not showing respect to this Stone they were showing respect to God circling the direction where Muslims around the world prostrate whilst praying symbolised by the Kaabah. Kissing the Kaabah or the Black Stone's fragments on Kaabah was not a part of the Hajj nor the teaching of Islam. Muslims who chose to do so carries nothing on their way back home but Sin.

As some friends told me in a sarav dharm meeting that although there is no place for any visible statue picture or even photos to worship BUT there are some symbolic things who are there to do the different type of things to make the human understand.

But the question is who are throwing the stones on that symbolic stone are really change themselves or still the same.well sorry .....i do not want to know it much because talking about this religion is just upset many people even in yahoo question/answer people. thanks.

  • the one they kiss which looks like a woman's vagina is claimed to have came down from heaven

and the other stones they throw in the hole are supposed to target saitan who can somehow be there and peeing in people's ears for not waking for prayer at the same time
