Did the axis powers screw themselves over in ww2?

The way I see it, hitler made an unnecessary attack on Russia you operation Barbarossa which bought in a large enemy against Germany, who they were allied with before. Also japan, I don't know what the **** they were doing but their generals must have been on crack to attack the neutral us I mean why would you do that when thy weren't even at war? They could have at least finished up the rest of the allies before declaring war on these two powers? I have Lways felt that if this had not have hAppened hitler would have won ww2?

Germany attacked Russia because that was an ideology of the Nazi Party. Germany did not want war with Britain or France - they declared war on Germany, not the other way around.

Germany deliberately established a long standing alliance with Russia to lure them into a false sense of security and also to import as much Russian material (iron, steel, oil, etc.) as possible for the impending war. Adolf Hitler and his foreign ministers had been masterminding this for years. Stalin had a nervous breakdown when he was informed German forces had launched an offensive into Russia.

Japan had a strategy: a sphere of Japanese influence revolving around Siberia or Southeast Asia. Siberia was supported by the army while Southeast Asia was supported by the navy. A Siberian empire would mean war with Russia while a Southeast empire would mean war with USA. The consensus was that it was either one or the other, but not both.

The army struggled against Russian forces in skirmishes in Mongolia, and against Chinese forces in the Second Sino-Japanese War. Despite the upper echelons of Japanese society having closer ties with the army, the army's recent military setbacks resulted in a loss of faith amongst the people, and the government and public subsequently supported the navy and a Southeast expansion. Japan subsequently signed a neutrality pact with Russia, launched military campaigns in Vietnam, the Malay, Indonesia, the Pacific and entered war with the US, as had been envisaged - peace with either one of Russia or USA, but war with the other.

In summary, Germany and Japan's ideology were not formed in unison.

The Axis powers were not drawn together out of mutual ambition, but rather through the concept of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". The three main members of the Axis - Germany, Japan and Italy - were screwed over by France, Britain and the US during the 1919 Paris Peace Conference.

No in truth they were doomed from the start. It was only because of failings in the pacifist sentiments in the political leadership of the US/UK/France that allowed them to get so relatively strong. The thing that wins modern wars is not good generals it is lots and lots of kit. From the turn of 1940 the UK was producing more than Germany (if you include US sales to the UK) in most important fields.

Germany didn't have a choice with the Soviet attack, their economy was dependent on pillage. They needed new territories to take over, to steal from and enslave the people else their economy would implode. It could be argued they did it too soon, however the Red Army was getting better and bigger every year. Hitler also was convinced that Stalin was going to attack him, a fact aided in part by British refusal to make peace.

As for the Japanese the US was not their main thrust of attack, it all came down to oil. When the US created an oil embargo the Japanese only had a few months of oil left, without this oil the Island nation would be cut off from it's army in China and supplies of food and resources (as the merchant ships wouldn't be running). So the Japanese decided to gamble and take over the Malaysia/Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) which was rich in oil. They knew that the US wouldn't allow this to happen without a fight so they thought they would start the fight with a knock out blow to any US war effort. As the US controlled the Philippines any attack into the Indonesia/Malaysia area would have to sail past US controlled territory making supply a big issue.

Canada? Now not an option. Canada was still a part of the British Empire then. It isn't of path probably that with a impartial u.S. That the Axis would have gained. Japan would had been bogged down combating in China ceaselessly, and Russia takes a looooot of conquering even though the americans aren't sending them trucks. Extra doubtless the conflict between the British Empire would have taken quite a bit longer, more just like the wars against Napoleon, however would end with the Germans falling. However expect that you're making a whole bunch of alterations to let the Germans win. Maintain the us impartial, supply the Germans a chunnel to invade Britain, have Stalin commit suicide , something. Even then, Germany would to find itself in manage of extra territory than it might honestly maintain, with a severely mismanaged economic system. Hitler dies, and the whole factor falls aside.

It was largely believed by the axis powers that the United States would eventually enter the war on the side of the allies. Their spy networks all suggested that the American government wanted to go to war with the axis, and openly supported Britain. This information was actually not that off.... the US government under Rooseveldt did, in fact, want to enter the war. They openly supported the British and were beginning to cut trading ties with axis nations.

Hitler knew this, and also knew that the Soviets were preparing for war to at the very least assert their dominance in eastern Europe. Hitler belived that if he crushed the USSR, the western allies would not stand a chance. It was pretty ambitious, BUT, you have to understand at this point the German Wermacht was the best army in the world and the most advanced. The USSR was also arming really quickly, and their military leadership was beginning to establish itself (after Stalin purged 80% of his military command). The Soviet war with Finland affirmed German convictions that the time was rype to attack the USSR. IF Moscow fell, and if IF the Germans won in Russia (which they almost did) they would have won the war. American intervention at that point would not have turned the tide.... realstically the British would have sued for peace.

Well hitler always planned to invade Russia. It was only a matter of time. The only reason they were allied was so that he could focus to the west coast of Europe first before running east. I feel like it wasn't the fact that they invaded Russia it was that they didnt collaborate with the Japanese and do a joint strike. As for Japan, they were just angry and upset because the US stop supplying scrap metals to Japan. They also wanted to flex their military muscle. Which was a mistake. However your claim that the US was neutral is not entirely true. We were allied with GB and France from the begging. We helped to supply them with the resources they needed to stay in the fight. Just like in WWI, we were sticking out nose into someone else's business and we picked a side before we were attacked.

On a side note bottle screwed up with the Jews. If you plan to "cleanse" the Jews then you do it fast. He took way too long in my opinion. Setting up camps? Why? Why not just "cleanse" them right away. Just like in all cartoon movies the bad guys never win because they take too darn long to kill the hero, always trying to savor the moment.

You are only being taught one side of the story which is why it seems so confusing. If you listen to the interviews of germans soldiers who fought in the east they talk of the huge invasion force stalin had massed in the west they smashed through this then it was plain sailing almost the whole way to moscow. Hitler too talks of the threat from stalin, who had planned to move all the way to the french coast, those germans soldiers who everyone thinks of as evil actually died trying to defend the whole of europe from the sick depravities of bolshevism. They should be remembered as heroes because that is what they are.

Why did japan go to war at all, because the us blocked all fuel supplies to them, they had to fight to take land and resources to survive. Their attempt to knock out the american fleet was the only option they to succeed.

If anything about history or what goes on today seems confusing never just assume the people were stupid look to see what was really going on.

Hitler always wanted Russia, he wrote such things in Mein Kamph. Operation Barbarossa would have succeeded, if Italy didn't secure the Balkans, thus wasting time for Germany to attack, by the time Germany did attack, the harsh conditions of winter wiped them out, not necessarily Russian forces.

Japan attacked the USA for a number of reasons, one being that Japan invaded Manchuria, this meant japan was at war with china. USA's main policy during that period, was not to trade at all with any country at war, so suddenly japan had no trade with one of the largest trading country in the world. secondly, japan was always a victim of racism in the league of nations (especially by america), this annoyed japan, and caused Japan to storm out of the league in 1933 (i think). lastly, because of all the racism and anti japan feelings across Europe, Extreme Nationalists took over in Japan with a serious hatred for america.... =Pearl Harbour

the problem with what you said, is Hitler did what he intended to do, and it was succeeding, Hitler conquered most of Europe, so now he had the industry to attack the USSR, if Hitler wasn't delayed by Mussolini and attacked in Spring like he intended, Stalins forces wouldn't be able to take an invasion of that scale, not even with all his 5 year plans

One thing you seem to have miosed out on was the same reason people claim about recent conflicts. Germany needed oil. Tanks don't run on fresh air and his strategy was to try to get supplies from the eastern European areas as Britain was stopping him getting it from the midddle east. Hence the Desert campaign.... to stop the Germans getting to Saudi Arabia etc.

It was only through lack of oil (deisel and petrol) that the German attack in the Ardennes failed because he could not supply enough of the the fuel to keep up his impetus.

Repeatedly - in diplomacy, economics, strategy, technology - you name it and it's a good bet that Hitler or Mussolini or Tojo someone in their governments or militaries was screwing something up.

That's not to say that the Allies weren't doing the same thing - they were - but it was nowhere near the same extent of insane errors that the Axis was committing.

However, Hitler could not have won WWII - he was outmatched, and was only as successful as he was through sheer luck and by taking the initiative. The Fall of France was extremely unlikely and a very close thing - Hitler nearly lost everything there.
