First high school outdoor track meet tips? Sprinting and Mid?
This is my first year in track and my first meet is in 2 days. I will be running the 200m dash and 400m as I'm more of a sprinter than distance. Today in practice I ran 400m 3 times. The first time I finished second but I made the mistake of sprinting first than slowing down in the end. Not so sure what my time was. The rest was pretty bad as I was tired. I never sprinted 200m but when i sprinted about 100m i did pretty well against my team mates. Again not sure what my time was.
What are some tips for me as a sprinter. Ive only been training for 2 weeks and im not sure what to expect out of my first meet. Thanks!
P.S. any tips on getting good stamina because over time I want to be able to run 400m good. Foods I should eat, things i should do the day before, etc.
Thanks!

Keep runnin Forest! You will build stamina the more you run. Practice makes better!

I am also a High School Track Runner and I've been running the 400 for seven track seasons ( indoor and outdoor) including this one. Considering this is your first meet, what you should ultimately realize is that its all about your long term goals, not your individual meets per say. In my first year of high school track I wanted to make it to an invitational, and now in my third year I am extremely motivated to make it to States. 400 runners are a different kind of runner. Its too long to really be a sprint and too short to be a distance event. In that sense, you have to know your role, know your training, and rise above the occasion. In my first year I ran around a 57, and I just kept building each season. But you dont just gradually get better, you have to put die hard effort into your race, take pride in it. I even took up Cross Country for the first time this year so I could build endurance. What you want to do is make sure to always keep stretching, and also find someone who can push you. Train with someone who is around your ability or better, and during the race make sure to lock on and chase those are in front of you. You certainly cant just go easy and then go hard or vice versa, you have to maintain speed and then build on it. Most importantly, dont let this race syche you out. It is an extremely tough event if you make sure to give it your all, and the pain of it can be gruesome at times, but its all worth it in the end. Use blocks if you can as well, drink a lot of water, and eat carbohydrates the day before. Good luck at your meet, and best of luck for the remainder of your high school running agenda.

Spikes give you about 1 sec per lap over training residences. Best you realize whether that's sufficient growth to justify carrying them. Racing residences are as fast as spikes for jogging the mile so long as the monitor is dry.
