Does a Firearm have to be locked up in a safe in Georgia if a child lives in the house?

I have read through the Georgia Laws, but I have not seen anything stating I must lock my guns up in a safe. As of right now the guns are all located in an area of the house that my child cannot get to. She would have no possible means of getting to them. But my concern is, do they legally have to be locked up in a safe? I am not a fan of that because if I ever need it, I may not have time to grab it from my safe which is set on a 1 minute timer.

No, they do not. But, do you know how many times I have heard on the news where the parent(s) stated there was not one that my child could get to it, but ended up they did and killed themselves? Even though it is NOT against the law, I would think a good and caring parent would want to take that extra protection. How would you feel if something like this did happen to your child? You do know that you would be charged criminally, correct?

Georgia law doesn't currently require firearms to be locked in a safe if a child lives in the house.

Georgia law like many other states requires firearms to be secured where children can not gain unsupervised access to the firearms which can be a locked room or area that the child cant enter or a locked gun cabinet that the child cant open or a wall mounted locking gun rack that the child cant open.

If you use a handgun for home protection then there are numerous types of single size handgun safes that allow instant access by means of an entry code rather than a combination and they can be mounted on the side of a night stand or on the wall in a room or the backside of a closet door.

You don't have to keep your pistol is a safe, but it's a good idea to keep your pistol in a secure place.

Purchase a lock box with a combination lock, and keep your pistol and five magazines of ammunition in the lock box.

Lock boxes, the one thing Al Gore was right about.

Well, aside from Manbearpig, that was super cereal.
