No, it actually works backwards of that. If you want the effect of a full frame on a "medium or entry level camera" (which is an APS-C sensor), you have to use a shorter lens by 1.5. So if you are looking for the 50mm effect on a full frame, you would have to use a 35mm lens (1.5x35 = 52.5).

Is dependent upon what you are taking pictures. If you want to be capable to work in low mild in any respect, get the D40 and be pleased. If you need the zoom and shoot in daylight or brilliant mild, the S5 IS will work nice in the restrained circumstances of bright mild. But when you do any kind of capturing in less than best light, you can be lovely sad and become getting the D40 anyway. So, in the long run, it can be honestly more cost-effective to get the D40 and add on, than to get the S5 IS, develop upset, then get the D40 and add on from there. You could as well save your self the rate of the S5 IS right from the start. The kit lens is not best, so you don't ought to buy it. You could at all times purchase one other lens, like the 18-70mm or the 24-120 VR AF-S lens and just get the D40 body most effective.
