What are the pros and cons of stricter gun laws?

Making something against the law will not always stop it.. If guns were ever banned than only the bad guys would have them..Criminals prefer unarmed victims!!

Having a gun will not help all the time but being defenseless will never help..

Calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.

Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.

Since criminals really do not obey the laws already on the books, there are few pros to stricter gun laws. The cons include denying the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves, their families and property. Many of the statements used to support stricter gun laws are fallacies because the laws on the books already where put in place to deter crime, but in reality cannot be enforced to the point of being useful to deter crimes but only imposing greater punishments on individuals once convicted of a crime.

Cons:

* It would create a vulnerability to the Second Amendment. Once you government authority to restrict a certain type of gun, that's their wedge in the door; that's all they need to shove all the rest of the gun control laws through, and once you've done that, you've basically granted them **authority** to to repeal--or possible even ban, if they please--the selling of arms.

* Crime rates would sky-rocket. Areas where the selling arms have been banned--or even as much as tampered with--showed an increase in violence.

Gun control guarantees two things: Armed criminals and unarmed civilians.

Pro's - People who think with emotion while ignoring statistical fact will have a VERY false sense of security

Con - Law abiding citzens punished for the crimes of criminals, while criminals aren't affected at all by the new laws.

Australia had and average of 32 mass shootings per year. In 1999 They made it illegal to own long guns. There has not been a single mass shooting since.

People would be safer. The proof is in the results of real gun control that was enacted 14 yrs. ago.

the pros are people would sleep better at night thinking they are safer. the con is that they wouldn't be- and the black market for guns <and ammo> will flourish.
