Toddlers with fevers - how do you get them to rest?

When my toddler gets fevers we try to get him to rest and relax. Nap time is no problem, but you would think that you otherwise could get a 1.5 year old to chill out and watch some Bob the builder or something, but he is on his feet as if he wasn't sick, and i fear that it may prolong his illness. Anyone have these issues?

if hes playing let him play because making him rest will teach him that whenever hes sick he needs to stay down instead of perservere. my daughter has had the flu bad and will be down one minute and up jumping like theres nothing wrong when shes burning up with a fever. its just what they do. he may feel better and thats why hes up.

A fever is a sign that the child's body is fighting an infection. If he needs to rest, then he'll feel tired and a bit droopy. But if it's a mild fever, and he wants to keep running around, he'll be fine. Just make sure he stays warm if he goes outside, and that he's having plenty of water or very diluted juice to drink in addition to his milk.

Let him alone, if he feels well enough to play then he should be playing - activity will help ramp up the immune system and destroy the illness faster. If he does become lethargic it means it is quite ill and should be seeing a doctor.

You don't. Obviously, if he is running around seeming totally fine, he probably is. He will know when he's not feeling well, and so will you. Let him be.
