how many of you think an atheist is necessarily irreligious?
Last I checked, atheist = non believer in any god, but since not every religion involves any kind of personal god, why do people think that atheist is synonymous with irreligious?
Oh dear... Another person who thinks atheist and agnost are mutually exclusive things.
Please recognize that the majority of people claiming to be either are actually both. An agnost is not a fence sitter, just someone who recognizes its impossible to be 100% sure either way, what they personally BELIEVE is true however, is a seperate thing altogether.
Similarly, implied is not the same as assumed, the word you should have used.

" atheism and agnosticism ARE mutually exclusive "
You clearly either don't know what the words mean, or can't tell the difference between believing and knowing.
Actually, your answer seems to imply its both.

An athiest is someone who doesn't believe in God.
Someone who is an atheist can have hundreds of other viewpoints.
Some atheists believe in psychics, astrology etc.
Some are anti-theist and believe that it's poisonous to knowledge and education.
It's just like a Christian can also believe in Bigfoot. Their religion doesn't define them 100% as a person, just that aspect of their world-view.

atheism and agnosticism ARE mutually exclusive.
An atheist has a strong disbelief of God and afterlife.
An agnostic doesn't know (just like everybody else), except agnostics are usually humble enough to admit that

I do. a- theist. theology being religion. 'a' being non or anti or adverse or against or what have you. I don't know why people need to complicate this stuff. As far as I'm concerned, you either believe, don't think about it/have an opinion out of some superstitious fear, or are an atheist.

Because people who believe in a God, feel personally attacked by those who don't believe.
Which is kinda strange because others can believe what they want and it doesn't worry me a bit.
