How or what effects did the Great Depression leave behind?

The Great Depression of 1929 had two major effects upon American Society.

SOCIAL SECURITY

The Social Security system was created.

This way if people would lose fortunes in the stock market in

the future they would still have Social Security benefits to

fall back upon.

GLASS-STEAGALL

This legislation was passed and it regulated the banking industry

thus preventing a major collapse, such as the Great Depression,

from re-occurring.

Unfortunately, starting in the 1970’s, legislators started weakening

this legislation and finally in 2006 we saw the terrible effect of the

weakening of the legislation in the fall-out of the Great Recession.
