Need some motherly advice. please don't laugh!?

Without mentioning pitiful details... I didn't grow up normal. I was abused and hidden for years. I went to school, came home, and that was it. Normal things that everybody does, I never learned how to do. And now, a mom at 22, I have to learn. And I'm totally on my own.

Cleaning the house... Where do you start? Is there a certain order things should be done? Should I take a shower before or after cleaning the house? Does it matter? How do you get the grease off of dishes? How do you clean a couch that a child has thrown up on? A bed? And once you wash all the sheets, how do you put them back on? Can you put pillows in the washer?

Any other advice you can offer?

Clean your house in whatever order you fancy, but remember when washing the floor to start furthest from the door and work back towards it or you'll end up trapped! (It happens to all of us at least once!)

Why would it matter when you shower? Though unless your bathroom is filthy I suggest you shower before cleaning it.

Most of the time your washing up liquid will just do the job, however if you are having trouble shifting anything put the item to soak with washing up liquid and boiling water, for really gross things, add some salt too.

Cleaning up vomit requires fabric cleaner, and a bucket of warm water, the instructions will be on the fabric cleaner.

Making a bed is really not that hard, especially since you will have to unmake it to get everything in the washing machine, since you don't ask how to use a washing machine I imagine you can work out how to tuck sheets into a mattress and stuff duvets and pillows without much help.

Pillows might go in the washing machine, check the label that will be on them, it will say if you can or not.

Google will help you with all of these things, just type in your question and hit search.

I don't think anyone will laugh at your situation, however have you ever considered meeting with a therapist to talk through some of these things with someone? It might be nice, and believe it or not they might help you with random questions like these too! :)

There is no right or wrong way to clean a house. However you feel like cleaning. I can suggest that you dust before you vacuum, because dust tends to fall on the floor. Most people probably shower after they clean, but some probably do it before AND after! I think most people do a "deep clean" of their house only so often, but most people pick up and clean up a little every day. Dishes are an easy thing, just clean with dish soap or a dishwasher. If something is stuck on, you just put dish soap and water in it and soak it for a while. Cleaning the couch could depend on what kind of material it is. Generally just picking up the debris with a paper towel or dish towel, and then try using water to clean the area. Some couches you could use water with a little dish soap to clean it, others you may ruin. Same thing with a bed, although you can't really ruin that. Just use dish soap on a towel and scrub the stain. I don't really know how to tell you to put the sheets back on, that is pretty self-explanatory. Just pull the corners of the sheets, over the corners of the bed. And no, I wouldn't suggest putting pillows in the washer. You should get new pillows at least once a year.

I start cleaning my house in the kitchen. Dishes are a small chore and help me get started, mostly because my dishwasher is loud enough to wake the dead. I'd take a shower after cleaning the house. No use getting all sweaty and gross after you just cleaned yourself. Upholstery cleaner is good for couches, just be sure to spot test on the back of it to be sure it won't bleach your fabric. Just put the sheets on in reverse order you took them off. Fitted sheet (elastic corners) first, flat sheet, then blanket and pillows. Pillows CAN be put in the washer, just don't leave them in there when the cycle's done. Put them in the dryer right away with a couple of tennis balls to help keep the stuffing from settling funny.

Just remember, do one thing at a time until you get the hang of it. It's strange and sometimes scary being on your own, but you get used to it and even learn to enjoy it. I never lived alone until after I married my husband. It's been a little over a year now, and we still LOVE the quiet that comes from being by ourselves.

Good luck, honey, and I wish you all the best!

Hon it's alright! I'm 21 still living with family but I haven't moved out on my own yet or have kids. Which I tend to after I'm married, well try cleaning supplies for the couch, making a bed isn't too hard just putting sheets over, cleaning you can pretty much start cleaning everywhere, so doesn't matter too much. You're not at all dumb and that's a very understandable situation :)

You can put pillows on gentle cycle. Shower after you clean. Get grease fighting soap. And for throw up, wipe of with a hot rag to kill germs. Then put fabric or furniture spray cleaner on it to do the rest.
