Could someone please rescue Sen. McCain before he totally destroys himself?

once upon a time he seemed like a reasonable conservative leader with the courage of his convictions and that he didn't always run with the pack, but was willing to take a stand on principle. a maverick as Sarah said, but in reality by the time she said it, it hadn't been true for years. once the presidential bug bit him, he was lost and has yet to return. he was against letting evangelical leaders influencing party policies until they beat him in the primaries against Bush. then, he went to Jerry Falwell and kissed his ring in 2008. he was pro-immigration reform and very helfpul to Bush in his efforts to pass it, until he had to run for reelection in 2010. then he became born again anti-illegal. now that he's not running for reelection, he's become reborn again pro-reform. he knows as much about the price of war as anyone, but over the past few years he's turned into Yosemite Sam, jumping up and down and firing his pistols calling for one military campaign after another, in Libya, in Syria, in Iran, etc. there's hardly any place where every problem couldn't be resolved with a large number of well placed bombs, it would seem.. so, he's turned himself largely into a cartoon figure. let him rescue himself, if he can.

I have had great respect for Senator McCain.

He and Ted Kennedy HAD the answer to immigration reform, the wing nuts from BOTH sides shot it down. In 2008........he wanted to go with Lieberman, and his party wouldn't allow it.......and saddled him with Palin, to appease the moronic base.

The man had a shot at the PRESIDENCY........and was saddled with a Teabagger.

I'd be angry and bitter too-

It's a pity his career had to end the way it did.....sucking up to the most moronic aspects of his base.

He was the ONLY republican I can name, who told a birther to shut up and sit down.

I respected him GREATLY for that. There is no other republican out there, who can make that claim.

McCain KNEW it was wrong, and SAID so.

I will not trash him now, in the twilight of his career.

With Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, at the helm... You can bet, there's a lot of voter suppression, voter intimidation, voter ID, shortened voting days, & the big on,,, gerrymandering... So McCain, could well stay in place, for a lot of years to come... Or die of old age, holding the office...

Reality is that Sen. Mc/Cain went from admirable to unacceptable. He needs to go Home before nothing nice can be said about him any longer. It is not me who is putting him down, that is his own doing, I am trying to save what is still nice about him. .

Rescue him? Why? He is far too entertaining a demonstration of the craven nature of Republican politicians.

Because he was exposing Hagel for what he really is? He asked and said nothing but the truth, how is that a reason to attack McCain for it. What is it with the people on the left, your love for everyone of your party is a bit irrational, there are even those in my party I find worthless at times, so what is it? Your parties faithful following of everyone is blinding you all!

You have a point. I was watching him attack Chuck Hagel and I'm no Hagel fan, but McCain was terribly disrespectful. It was disgraceful. If Congress can't treat its own with respect, how do they expect any of us to respect any of them?

Ask a REAL question that somebody can actually answer.

McCain's term will end in 2016, and he will almost certainly retire.

Then you can calm down, think rationally, and think about how to ask a question that somebody can provide an answer to.
