Can you catch genital herpes from someone who doesn't?

My friend doesn't have a yahoo answers account and asked to put this up.

Well first off my friend supposedly had sex (and lost her virginity) exactly a week from now from her boyfriend. On Sunday she told me it started to hurt when she peed, then on Monday I went to the ER with her to get her checked since the clinic had not been opened yet. The doctors did a pee test on her and it turned out she had a UTI. But then when they examined her vag, they told her they are concerned that she has genital herpes. She suddenly called her boyfriend after we left the hospital and asked if he had any STD's and of course, his reply was a no. And that he had gotten checked after they had sex to make sure. Is it possible to catch genital herpes from someone who doesn't? Or could the doctor be lying?

No you cannot catch a disease from somebody who doesn't have that disease..... Obvious answer there but ok...

I doubt the doctro would lie and tell somebody they had herpes... Sounds like the boyfirend is lying if she does.

First off, dont listen to anyone else.
Even though your boyfriend got tested for stds after you guys had sex,they dont test for herpes unless you ask, and for a herpes test if he is not having an outbreak they have to do a blood test. he could still very possible have genital herpes, It can lay dormant in his body for years, and him not know or have any symptoms. Its not possible for you to catch herpes from someone who doesnt have it, but as i said he could have it and just not know it. My boyfriend had it and told me he was clean. A few weeks later I had a major outbreak and they were able to test my leisons(bumps on my vagina) and the test came back positve for herpes. If he didnt have any symptoms or outbreaks while you guys were having sex but he was"shedding" the virus, you could have got it that way. Theres no way of telling who had it first if you both have it. To be positive you both can go get blood tests done for herpes. A blood test is not 100% positive so even if it came back negative. it could be a false negative. Noone can be 100%  unless you are having an outbreak and they are able to test the lesions.

Well it's obvious you can't get genital herpes from someone who does not have it. Lol but as far as the doctor supposably lying, that's doubtful. It's most likely her boyfriend is lying about not having herpes. But if he does have cold sores, that means he has HSV1(Herpes Simplex Virus One). Which there is a possibility if they had oral sex he could have given her HSV1.

highly unlikely that the doctor would lie. 
more likely her bf is lying... 
if he gets cold sores on his lips, then gave her oral, then yes, she now has genital herpes. 
go get checked out by another doctor to be sure.
