Trader Joe's has a few organic fresh foods & even frozen veggies at a reasonable price & some frozen plastic bags of vegetarian stuff. Not everything is wholesome, but I do shop there a lot. They have good prices on nuts & peppermint tea & frozen organic peas & green beans. I like their rice pudding & their cheese, too, some of it with only vegetable rennet.
Their bagged organic salad greens & bagged organic baby spinach are really great with good prices on them & real time savers. Their hummus doesn't say organic, but I love their Mediterranean one & it's about half the price as hummus at other stores. I often put a spoonful in salads.
They have some great gluten-free rice crackers, too, for those who need that, & savings on all those splurges like pies, chocolates, chocolate pudding maybe once a year, & cookies. The yummiest thing I pigged out on the past couple of weeks was mascarpone, a creamy Italian cheese, eaten with their cranberry apple butter on bread at the recommendation of an employee. They also have a good, sharp Holland cheese, that I love with crackers. In other words, it's common to go there to save money on bagged nuts like almonds, then end up splurging on way too many items. Love their sample bar.
Safeway has added a good organic section, too. Occasionally there will be some good prices. Can sometimes get good prices on organic sweet potatoes, which I really like. For the baby spinach & bagged salad greens, they're too high, compared to Trader Joe's.
The only thing is, Safeway hires union workers, but I don't know about Trader Joe's. The employees seem very cheerful & friendly at Trader Joe's, like they are happy to have jobs. Seems like a good atmosphere with cool rock music piped in. Feels like I could dance in the aisles.
Wine & mineral water are cheaper, too. The pomegranate flavored mineral water is wonderful. It's good, too, that they have really great 99 cent birthday cards, which I buy for us to pass around at work for everyone to sign. Saves mucho bucks there. We buy a lot of our snacks for meetings at work, too.
I never go to Whole Foods. I go to a small, employee-owned local health food store, close to home & work, where everybody knows me. They play cool music, too. At a small store like that, I can buzz through in 15-30 minutes at most, including filling my water bottles, & even buying small items for Christmas gifts. What more could I want?
No matter where I'm shopping, though, I continually see people with the reusable 99 cent vinyl grocery bags from Trader Joe's. Guess we all go there, too.
