Top Five RTS games???

Mmm for me :

Total Annilation (it is old but still classic - but it is futuristic though, but with great units ... and you can download even more)

Supreme Commander - the successor to TA. Personally I like TA's immense amount of unit more but this look better as it has updated graphics and as usual it allows you to zoom in to the smallest unit and zoom out for a strategic view of the whole battlefield.

Company of Heroes - enough said. Cover system, soldiers that act intelligently, modern unit .. I think this one fits your bill the most.

Empire Total War or Mediaval 2 Total War. These are based on the total war series, so it has a Risk(tm) like strategic game but when it comes to the tactical games, it is absolutely thrilling when you delve into the amount of tactic and flexibility it offers you.

Can't think of another of my fav, but if you really need a fifth, then you might try starcraft II or Red Alert. Personally I would put SCII last as ... it is a great disappointment and seems to eschew many of the innovation that has taken place in the realm of RTS, even though it is the newest among all these games.

Empire Earth III is an excellent RTS game where you can experience becoming the ruler of Earth empires. The gameplay of Empire Earth III unfolds in a lavishly well-detailed Earth, and it has 60 maps all in all and it represents a real area on the globe, or you can randomly create a generated globe to control.

It's a very nice game.

Civilization V. I really love this game. You are the leader of a civilization, gather resources, etc. You compete with other civilizations. You win by either conquering other civilizations, the first civilization to launch humans to another planet, etc. Technologies starts from the stone age, and as technology develops to the new era. Or you can set where your technolgy starts.
