Popular vs. Alternative/ Goth... Who should I hang out with?

This is my third day of high school and I'm what you would consider one of the "popular" people there. I go to a mostly black school (I'm black too) but it's not one of those ghetto schools. It has a Fine Arts Program and that's the reason that I go there. In my guitar class, I became friends with this white girl and she was really funny and interesting. We made plans to sit together at lunch and I met this Asian guy that's in 11th grade and is one of her friend and we got along really well. We talked through the whole lunch and didn't even eat much. (We all play the guitar so we mainly talked about different picks, capos, guitars...stuff like that) :P It felt like I had known them my whole life. They are what you would call the alternative or goth people and they listen to screamo, heavy metal, and underground music and read these wierd books. When they were talking about the music and books, it really got me intereseted and I wasn't bored like how I usually am with my "popular" friends. I don't really want to completely ditch my other friends for the new ones because I don't want them to think that I'm fake. But my "popular" friends also have a lot of drama and they worry too much about what others think about them while my other friends don't care. I'm really confused because I just strated 9th grade and don't want to have any drama at school. I would really appreciate everyone's answers. :D Thanks in advance.
