HP laptop battery wont charge while on laptop?

Over 2 yrs old laptop wont charge anymore when on the computer and plugged to the wall outlet, laptop wont even run when even when plugged to the wall outlet when battery is not charged.

Battery only gets recharged when removed from laptop and directly plugged to the charger. Laptop works fine when battery is charged.

Charger tested fine with volt meter. Battery charges fine and holds power. By process of elimination, Is the problem on the laptop itself?

    The hp laptop battery died as reached limited charge time. The laptop battery usually charge normally for 1-2 years.

    Bad power adapter or the power port jack pin is broken lose from the mother board.

    Has the power cord been pulled or jerked out hard ?
