Why do people like Sir Ichiban think "Prince of Wales" is an automatic title?

See, for example, the London Gazette of Tuesday 29 July 1958 (http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/41460/pages...

Update:

Fading Horse, this shows as a blue link when being prepared - perhaps being spread over two lines confuses the system. Cutting and pasting into your browser should still work.

Update 2:

Fading Horse I think the protests of 1969 are unlikely to reoccur, even if the next Investiture is in Wales. Devolution has helped sooth concerns over English domination and shown that full independence may be possible, if desired. Also a BBC poll showed support for William as Prince of Wales. No doubt helped by his living on Anglesey. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8126785.stm. BBC News. 30 June 2009

Because that title has traditionally been given to the male heir apparent. Yes, I do now realise my mistake and when I returned to the question it had already been resolved and I could not apologise for my mistake, which is something that I ALWAYS do, or at least try to.

@Crank. Oh how droll, I don't think any other loser has ever thought of changing my avatar name to Sir Itchy, something or other. How does it feel to be so....so............ how can I put this, ah yes PEDESTRIAN.

Now to address your answer content, post the link where I make outlandish views and claim that most people agree with me, you can't and you are lying, one thing that I have never cared about, is whether people agree with me or not. No such claims have EVER been made by me, you are lying.

I do believe that the little stick man walking away from the rest of mankind, is non other than yourself.

Edit.........It would appear that our dear friend Crank has "done a runner" so to speak. At least I now know who I can count on........NO ONE.

    Edit........Has it worked Garry?

I cant read links that cant be clicked on. (they are usually blue) The Sovereign is the Fount of all honour and can give what ever they want. The title of the Prince of Wales is given to the eldest Son of the Sovereign,as Princess Royal is given to the eldest Daughter of a King or Queen. As we know they are usually Crowned, but after the protests in Wales in 1958 its a moot point if Charles will Crown William (in Wales anyway?)

They are probably too young to remember his investiture. Prior to being Prince of Wales, he was HRH Prince Charles of Edinburgh, and after his mother became Queen, HRH The Duke of Cornwall. Prince Charles did not become The Prince of Wales until 1958, and the formal ceremony did not happen until much later, in 1969.

The title "Prince of Wales " has traditionally been awarded to the "Heir Apparent " since the year 1244 or thereabouts ,known in the Welsh language as "Tywysog Cymru "(Leader of Wales )
