How much l-lysine should I take for cold sores?

i started taking l lysine ( one 500 mg pill everyday) a year ago and havent gotten one since (i get 2 or 3 a year). but right now i think i might be getting one because i feel the tingling and ive been in the sun a lot, so this is what im going to do. i started taking 2 lysine pills in the morning and 2 more at night, with vitiman c and iron (ive read about taking l lysine a lot and it says to take about 2000 when you feel an outbreak). i put all kinds of ointment on the area where i get cold sores ( aberva, herpecin, and lysine+) also read that icing the area can help. i iced it all last night, i guess the blisters wont form if it is near freezing temperature. i have these percribed pills for when i feel an outbreak but the doctors was closed yesterday so i have to wait till tommorrow to refill my valaclyior. i have never tried all of these things for a cold sore. the only things i have tried is putting aberva on and taking my perscribed pills when the outbreak was already there. hope this helps
