They don't. They do make a bread called matzoh which is just flour and water, but as far as yeast bread there is no restrictions on it. In bible times yeast represented spreading corruption. As a little leaven ferments a whole lump, false teachers or a leaning toward apostasy can corrupt an entire congregation.

The apostle Paul made an observation in connection with the Christians in Galatia to whom he wrote about “the fruitage of the spirit,” to warn them that they were being badly affected by the wrong environment. He said: “You were running well. Who hindered you from keeping on obeying the truth? This sort of persuasion is not from the One calling you. A little leaven ferments the whole lump.” (Gal. 5:7-9; Matt. 13:33) Those Galatian Christians were being influenced by those Judaizers whose hearts were unreceptive to full Christianity, whose ears were unresponsive and whose eyes were pasted shut. (Matt. 13:14, 15; Gal. 5:10) Such hindering associations must be avoided, abandoned.

Lol, I first read "why do Jews hate yeast in their BEARD" and was going to make a joke about my mother's husband, who is an Ultra Orthodox Jew with a thick long beard always having to clean crumbs out of his beard.

But Sour Lime and Aravah are spot on. It is only during Pesach (Passover) that we eat unleavened bread, and that is to commemorate that when the Jews were slaves in Egypt, and when they were fleeing Egypt they did not have time to bake and wait for their bread to rise, so they made Matzoh which has no yeast and cooks in a matter of minutes.

  • They don't.

As someone mentioned -"They do make a bread called matzoh which is just flour and water, (and also Challah has no yeast) but as far as yeast bread there is no restrictions on it.( Except at certain times). In bible times yeast represented spreading corruption (sin). Don't confuse that means they hate yeast.

Many Christian churches use unleavened bread for the Lord's Supper. I don't reason they hate yeast

They don't hate yeast. It was because they didn't have time to make it (takes a long time to make yeast bread) before leaving Egypt that they had unleavened bread. AND they only use that for passover.

answer: Lime is spot on - that's only during Pesach/Passover when we are instructed to eat unleavened bread/products/matzah during the 8 days of the observances. Jews started out from Egypt in such a rush that the bread had no time to rise.

It is a religious custom of the Jews to eat unleavened bread as part of the passover festival.
